Is there really a lodge 49? How about the Ancient & Benevolent Order of the Lynx? What about all the blindfolds and the silly hats? The rings? The crazy-cray symbols and rituals? Are those real? Where does the fantasy end and the truth begin?
The new hit AMC show Lodge 49 starring Wyatt Russell has stirred a great deal of interest in traditional fraternal organizations, especially Freemasonry. The images and mysterious symbols in the show are based on masonic symbols and traditions, but plenty of poetic license has been taken to help tell the story of a surfer named “Dud” who is trying to connect to his late father by connecting to his father’s fraternal lodge.
I am not only a Freemason, but also a media professional with more than 25 years in the business. It’s my hope this blog will help the viewers of Lodge 49 figure out the difference between fact and fiction and to help them better understand Freemasonry in general.
Like Dud, the main character in Lodge 49, many of us are on a journey of self-discovery and self-improvement. Perhaps we will watch Dud become the man he truly wishes to be through the order of the Lynx? Perhaps in watching the show and reading the blog, you will learn how Freemasonry could help you discover the man you truly wish to be?
Stay tuned….

Do any of the writers or actors have personal or family connections to freemasonry? Do you think the show will have a positive or negative impact on the fraternity?
